BIO: Award winning poetess, Catherine Inglesby, was Born ‘on the other side of the pond’ in Liverpool, England, where at the age of seven she composed her first poem. This composition stemmed from an unpleasant run-in with a mouse in her bedroom, which her father tried to convince her didn't exist! She now lives On The Wirral, in Merseyside and has been writing poetry for about 24 years. In that time she has written so many poems she has lost count! She says, "at a guess I would say about 4000 poems in all…? And counting!" |

When she was 19 yrs old she began to have a lot of health problems and by the time she was 23 she was 'in a mess', that's when she says she began writing in earnest. Catherine was a sign language communicator for the deaf until 1990 (when she needed surgery to have a brain tumor removed). "Sadly," she says, "I never worked again, though I do and always will sign. I taught my kids, and teach my grandchildren too..." Catherine has led the Liverpool Deaf Choir in prayer and song in the Liverpool Metropolitan Catholic Cathedral. She also taught them to sign Cliff Richard's ‘Mistletoe And Wine’ to perform at a Christmas party. The very first poem Catherine had published was dedicated to Martin Luther King Jr. Since then, she has had over 49 poems published in anthologies of verse, had some recorded to CD, and also had her own small books of poetry published called Chasing Rainbows, Catching Rainbows and Dreams On Cotton Wool Clouds. Catherine has also had a recorded cassette tape of herself reading 63 of her original poems and, where her talents are concerned, considers herself to be very blessed. Anyone experiencing her poetry will agree. Catherine says that many people relate to most of her poetry; 'people see themselves in many a situation reflected in my work. For me, I write it to help others the way it helped me when I needed it to.' Much of her poetry is written from personal experience, and, although no longer needing it as the ‘lifeline,’ that carried her through rough times, she now considers it to be a way of helping others, and that's exactly what it does! As a performance poet, Catherine says; 'I can pick out in any audience the people who relate to my work...it’s written all over their faces. Sad, serious, funny and downright daft...I think I must have covered almost every aspect of life in my words...and given time, I will cover any I have missed!' We look forward to it! Now 48 years old (don't worry, Catherine, we won't tell anyone!), Catherine is the mother of 4; Dave, Joe, Marie and Mark, and she has two grandchildren, Jack who is 7 yrs old and Olivia who is 5. |

ACHIEVEMENTS: Catherine has appeared numerous times on live radio and when her book was published, she gave all the proceeds to the Marie Curie Cancer Hospice in Liverpool. With this generous donation, they were able to purchase a specialized bed for £4000.00. She received a ‘Poet of the Year’ award, a certificate and a letter of thanks for donating the money for the bed. Her poem ‘Did The Punishment Fit The crime?’ was published by The National Society Of Prevention Of Cruelty To Children. She also won a ‘local hero award’ for her work, for which she received a Stuart, a lead crystal glass goblet and a certificate. One of her most memorable moments was the ‘Challenge Cath!: From Aldwark To Zak’; 'I sat in a public library for 4 hours, it was advertised in local newspapers and on local radio...people walked in off the street, asked me to do an on-the-spot rhyme, they put a donation in the pot. If I failed [to come up with a rhyme] the money went to the person whose poem I failed to do, but if I ‘won’ the money went to whomever I wanted it to go to. It went to the Catholic Social Services and sent a deaf child away on a holiday! If I remember correctly, it was about £75.00.' Two of Catherine's collections of poetry are currently available at Amazon.com and BarnesandNobel.com:
